Any ideas what it should show? When there is no project path there are no paths to show which is why it doesn't show currently.

Yeah, I'm not sure to be honest -- I'm fine with the current behavior. :)
Just checked SublimeText3, and it shows this:
So, it just shows an empty list (vs no list). I guess that this might be considered more helpful in the sense that it tells you that the command is working? Adding some text (below the textbox) which tells you "You're not in a project, there are no paths to search through" might also be helpful.

+1 for a message that tells you what's going on. This 20-year text editor user, but first time atom user was confused and it was made worse by getting started guide :P.

@austenmc You are right, this is confusing, in Atom 0.141 it will say "Project is empty" in this case.
