ha, ok. i pulled this thing out of a drawer after not using it in forever. it's running a 32 bit kernel. I imagine that's why it's failing

Though atom requires 64bit linux for now, apm should work fine with 32bit, your problem seems to be the downloaded tarball being corrupted. The incorrect header check error was thrown by zlib, and the node task is for downloading official node binary from nodejs.org.
