Sorry for the trouble, but it can't be reproduced on my MBP. Please full clone the repository and restart the Hammerspoon.
Also, you can try changing line 46 of the file timelapsed.lua to this below:
image = hs.image.imageFromPath(hs.configdir .. "/resources/timebg.png"),Hope that will solve your problem. :)

So it may be related to the working directory. I'll verify this and see what I can do.
