I'm wondering the same... any future plans to be able to change the fade to a slide?

Not really. This is meant to be a tiny and simple plugin and I’m not really currently planning to add more features. I might rewrite it in the future, so that it has methods which can be called via JS, but that’s about it. You could try Flexslider if you need the sliding effect, it can be found here: http://www.woothemes.com/flexslider/
