You could poll the server from the controller of a particular widget (setTimeOut). Or you could use some push mechanism, I am aware of SignalR if your backend is .Net (This will default to AJAX poll if the browser doesn't support Web Sockets).

I think a time based or a server event based reload, should be implemented by the widget.

I agree with @sdorra each widget should have his own refresh time.

@mariorbarbbosa the dashboard provider does not expose the widgets array. As i already mentioned in #4, you have to expose the widgets array by modifying the dashboard provider:

    this.widgets = widgets;
