If the excerpt is to long, it'll cause your card to push everything outside the contents of the card which causes more issues to arise. To compromise, I'll add a read more link after it.

Sorry, but he excerpt is not too long, it is as long as an except is to be, equal to what Google is expecting, to what WP is expecting, and even DIVI: by default WordPress shows a limit of 55 words in an excerpt. A 'read more'' is a not a a good compromise at all. You have to design your plugin as what WP considers as standard, and not the way around.

Hello!

I have other problem related to the excerpts.

I changed the font size since bigger is friendlier to read.

But now, with bigger text, the excerpt is too big to be able to click the title (since text is not clickable) and go to the blog post.

I want to have the three points at the end.

I have tried to insert the read more from the post editor. Is this what @andyhqtran you meant with adding a read more link?

@erikgeurts Is there a way to make every card to look the same? For some the title is cropped, for others the text starts showing complete letter and for some others first line of text is chopped.
