I ended up closing it down since it was too much of a hassle to maintain both, with people doing PRs into both GitHub and GitLab, and with GitLab only doing a one way sync. I ended up choosing GitHub since the community is much larger, and that's huge for open source.
I'm personally looking forward to the day where forges allow users to interact through something like ActivityPub so this isn't a problem anymore.
