  • Even though I picked the :nosql image, there are input fields for database credentials present

Ampache still requires a database to function. The :nosql tag simply means that a SQL server is not provided in the image, so that you may use your own. Ampache cannot function without a database.

  • It also lists a MySQL database as a requirement

True, a MySQL database is required. MariaDB works, as it is directly compatible with MySQL, I don't know about Postgres however.

  • The step itself is even called "Create the Ampache database"

What this means, is creating the phsyical database and tables required for Ampache to run within the chosen database.

  • Everything else checks out (I manually downloaded and placed the ampache.cfg.php.dist file in the /var/www/config dir, which is > * owned by www-data:www-data)

If you have skipped the database install step, then Amapche will not work because the required database and tables will be missing.

Is there an example config file for nosql that I can copy to the /var/www/config dir as a quick solution for now?

I would recommend trying the standard image (i.e. don't use the :nosql tag) and see if that works for you running through a standard install. Then attempt again using your own database, if that's what you'd like to do.

Ah, I completely misunderstood the "nosql" concept, then. I thought it meant that I could use Ampache without a database. My bad.
