I investigated this, it is not hard. First of all, while application uses heroku subdomain we can just use heroku cert for free and no special steps required, second thing is to enforce https in application this is simple as class method call (see http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionController/ForceSSL/ClassMethods.html).
I think, i ll fix it till weekend.
