It's probably not related but I just want to mention that I fixed one leak in PoolInterfaceActor akka/akka#20844 which will be released in 2.4.8
from akka-http.

I'd say the behavior is as expected. The user is required to consume response entities. If an error happens during response processing, there's no way for the infrastructure to know that. To be sure you should wrap your processing logic with code that still discards the entity when an error happens.
In any case, after some time the pool should recover once the idle-timeout kicks in. We are considering better options for automatically dealing with unread response entities in #906.
