Unfortunatley, in this case you are not really using a lquip source, but a possible selectable source.

Of course this shouldn't happen on the other hand. I just changed the code, but had no time to test it. Would be great, if you could help testing on this. It's only in the master branch

Looks good!
I'm well aware that the image I used is by no means a low-resolution image, just used that for demonstration purposes.
One of your examples on https://afarkas.github.io/lazysizes/#examples could face the same issue now, couldn't it?
