Thanks for the quick reply!

I don't know what this is.

With this, you could do conda install bctpy instead of pip install bctpy. This immensely helps people who use conda.

Do you need to be a maintainer of bctpy in order
to do this?

I don't need to be a maintainer of bctpy for it.

I see that some other people used their own forks to put the
package on this service. Is there a reason this is bad?

In a way, yes, as they are "unofficial" and also needs the person who created the recipe to keep updating it. "Official" recipes help others to be sure they are getting the right package and also uploading it on conda-forge allows others in addition to the original recipe author to update the recipe as required (when the original recipe author or recipe maintainers are unresponsive).

OK I see it involves some hooks that pushing github releases will
automatically update the package on conda-forge. It looks like that just
requires some configuration files to be in the target package and to make a
pull request with the recipe files in conda-forge repository?

I'm not sure if conda-forge's bot will auto-detect version upgrades via GitHub Releases but it does for PyPI, but we'll get to know once you make a new release. So, I made a recipe file and I'll push it to conda-forge to add it there.

Can you make a PR for the stuff you need to put here?

I don't think we need anything in this repo but only in conda-forge/staged-recipes.

@aestrivex Hi! Could you please post a comment in the PR so that we can get it merged in conda-forge? Thanks!

This PR is merged now and bctpy on conda-forge is now located at: https://github.com/conda-forge/bctpy-feedstock .
