tongpu avatar tongpu commented on August 17, 2024

@RobinsChens You seem to have data from a previous installation of MariaDB in you PersistentVolume, especially the socket file /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock causes MariaDB to not start properly. Could you delete all data in the PV, or at least delete the socket file?

To start mysqld at boot time you have to copy
support-files/mysql.server to the right place for your system

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SET A PASSWORD FOR THE MariaDB root USER !
To do so, start the server, then issue the following commands:

'/usr/bin/mysqladmin' -u root password 'new-password'
'/usr/bin/mysqladmin' -u root -h mysql-0 password 'new-password'

Alternatively you can run:
'/usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation'

which will also give you the option of removing the test
databases and anonymous user created by default. This is
strongly recommended for production servers.

See the MariaDB Knowledgebase at http://mariadb.com/kb or the
MySQL manual for more instructions.

You can start the MariaDB daemon with:
cd '/usr' ; /usr/bin/mysqld_safe --datadir='/var/lib/mysql'

You can test the MariaDB daemon with mysql-test-run.pl
cd '/usr/mysql-test' ; perl mysql-test-run.pl

Please report any problems at http://mariadb.org/jira

You seem to have a very strange permission issue in your PersistentVolume. Could you show a ls -lZ for the /var/lib/mysql directory?

Exactly the same problem for me.

@richard-julien What is the exact environment (OpenShift/Kubernetes version, backend for PersistentVolume, ...) you're running into this issue? We can then try to reproduce it. We using this image on OpenShift and Kubernetes without any issues.

richard-julien avatar richard-julien commented on August 17, 2024

Its a kubernetes 1.6.2 deployed on centos07 with Kubeadm.
The volume is a GlusterFS created with a StorageClass using Heketi.
I used https://github.com/adfinis-sygroup/openshift-mariadb-galera/blob/master/galera_k8s_v1.5.yml
Thanks !

Somehow there seem to be issues with creating the socket on the GlusterFS PV. I'll build a separate image which creates the sockets in /var/run/mysql, maybe that would help.

from openshift-mariadb-galera.

eni23 avatar eni23 commented on August 17, 2024

The current version of the image has moved the socket to /var/run/mysql and was successfully tested with glusterfs. You can reopen this issue if its still not starting.
