I've found the issue and I've opened a PR chzyer/readline#133. Hopefully it gets merged soon.

Looks like a recent change to chzyer/readline is causing this.

Compiled it for linux and ran in on an ubuntu machine, same issue.

I noticed it works fine up until this commit chzyer/readline@9f56def. Anything newer than that breaks ishell.
A quick workaround would be to vendor chzyer/readline.
