Timeout on getting the data from rainbird controller / possible to add a configurable delay between send/query commands? about irrigation-v5 HOT 5 CLOSED

Hi,

It looks like the rainbird app is causing the issues. It is worrying that it fails on the turn off command. Not much I can do on my side.

Reading the code it appears that the device may have problems if multiple connections are attempted. Do you have your phone or other device also accessing the rainbird while the irrigation is running?

For a 503 error it has a built in retry of 3 attempts before failing.

Thanks @petergridge for looking into it. I checked some logs by myself and did some tests, i found the same.
I'm not connected with my mobile phone to the controller, nothing else is connected.

Strange is, that the connection loss/crash of the integration is only happening in automations. I tested manually to switch on/off the valves, and i could not produce a connection loss.

I created an issue in the rainbird integration, i'm sure the code owners will have a look.

Wanted to confirm this is true. The device does not like to have multiple commands sent at once.

Does this issue turn on/off commands serially?

@petergridge see home-assistant/core#102498 , first tests after the change from Allen looks good, if i include a break between the zones (10 secs). THis is my current test config:

Looks great for now. No errors in protocol, irrigation test (without water) running fine for 4 times in a row.....
