.emacs.d's Introduction

Pb

A heavy metal emacs configuration.

Defaults

These are general defaults + packages that I want pretty much everywhere.

;; Load path
(add-to-list 'load-path "~/.emacs.d/lib")

;; Secrets
(when (file-exists-p "~/.emacs.d/secrets.el")

(global-set-key (kbd "C-c p") 'previous-buffer)
(global-set-key (kbd "C-c C-j") 'pb-util-top-join-line)

I never want to suspend-frame. Ever. The behavior in MacOS is to minimize Emacs, and it’s default binding of C-z is too close to C-x. This leads to a lot of accidental minimizing.

(unbind-key "C-z" global-map)

GUI

When emacs is running in a window, there’s some additional settings (like default height and width of window) that I don’t need when emacs is running in the CLI.

(when (display-graphic-p)
    (server-start)

    ;; No scroll-bars
    (scroll-bar-mode -1)

    ;; Highlight the current line
    (global-hl-line-mode t)

;; Initialize with a fairly large window
    (add-to-list 'default-frame-alist '(height . 999999))
    (add-to-list 'default-frame-alist '(width . 180))

    (use-package exec-path-from-shell
      :ensure t
      :config (exec-path-from-shell-initialize)))

CLI

Likewise, there’s some CLI-specific settings I prefer that I don’t need running when emacs is in a window.

(unless (display-graphic-p)
  ;; Disable the menu-bar
  (menu-bar-mode -1))

Ruby

There’s a lot going on here that’s in flux, I’ll explain later when things stabilize.

(use-package yaml-mode :ensure t)

(add-hook'
 ruby-mode-hook
 (lambda ()
   (use-package rspec-mode
     :ensure t
     :config
     (add-hook 'after-init-hook 'inf-ruby-switch-setup)
     (defadvice rspec-compile (around rspec-compile-around)
       (let ((shell-file-name "/bin/zsh"))
         ad-do-it))

     (ad-activate 'rspec-compile)
     (rspec-mode))

   (use-package nlinum
     :ensure t
     :config (nlinum-mode))

   (use-package ruby-refactor
     :ensure t
     :config
     (setq ruby-refactor-add-parens t)
     (ruby-refactor-mode-launch))

   (whitespace-mode t)

   (defun rspec-outline ()
"Opens a buffer with rspec outline."
     (interactive)
     (multi-occur (list (current-buffer)) "^\s+\\(it\\\|describe\\\|context\\)"))))
