Before this change the payload is approximately 589 bytes. Afterwards it is approximately 392 bytes.

This is actually a great idea, but the supplied diff actually strips the compression from mitogen.core, so that would be a net loss. Thanks, I will keep this open and implement it assuming you don't beat me to it ;)

The final thing to pay attention to about .decode() is how it'll work in Python 3.. I think all the magical codecs are still there, but haven't checked recently :)
