Joda module should work just fine with non-JSON dataformats such as XML; although by default output would indeed be as elements instead of attributes (as this is the default). But values should all be enclosed in a parent element.
Is this just a cosmetic problem (i.e. you would prefer seeing attributes instead of elements), or is it failing to deserialize?
