Why use this line of code when you have user_exists() method via the authentication plugin, and which probably isn't subject to cookie tampering like the above. if anyone gets ahold of your apps secret, they could Forge a cookie with a "name" field and your code would treat that as an authenticated user. This doesn't seem like the most secure option...
